The resting factor: it is very common in curly and frizzy women. Do you know what it is and why it happens?
WHAT IS THE SHRINKAGE FACTOR
Have you ever noticed that it seems like curly and frizzy hair doesn’t grow or delays growing and always stays short? Most of the time this is not true and is just a feeling caused by the shrinkage factor. What happens? Curly and frizzy hair does not grow straight down, but grows in zigzags, forming the curl and giving that feeling of never growing.
When you wash your hair, the curl opens up and the hair shows its true length. Immediately afterwards, when you dry them, they resume their natural shape and give that feeling of not having grown. The curlier your hair is, the stronger this feeling will be, that is, the shrinkage factor will be more noticeable.
HOW TO REDUCE THREAD SHRINKAGE?
The fitagem technique is one of the most popular methods of decreasing the shrinkage factor (this technique is to gather in small strands, strips I hair-in Portuguese fitas-and hence the name fitagem).
There is a small variation: after dividing the hair into small strands, apply the cream according to the fitagem technique, avoiding tightening the curls in the palm of your hand; in this way you prevent the curl from closing and the tightening effect is less noticeable.
For those who are used to using a hair dryer, they can continue to use it. The only caveat is to use a good heat protectant and dry the hair until it is slightly damp, so don’t dry it out completely.
After drying, you need to run your fingers through your hair, from roots to ends, carefully separating the strands, thus reducing the intertwining of the curls.
This last step is very important, especially at the nape and root part of the hair, precisely to prevent the shrinkage factor from gathering your hair too much, thus appearing much shorter than it really is.
