Did you know that… hydroxide and thioglycolate: differences.

Difference between hydroxide and thioglycolate

The scientific names are complicated, but the effect is well known: they are both systems for straightening hair.
The two chemical components are responsible for smoothing and “disciplining” unruly curly hair.
The two options have a different objective and therefore it is worth knowing the main properties to decide which one to use when you intend to transform your hair.

Hydroxide: very effective and irreversible solution
This component is well known in the guanidine hydroxide version, a mixture that contains guanidine carbonate and calcium hydroxide. The effect depends on the mix of type of hair strand, intensity of guanidine – which can be very mild, light or normal.
It acts in the hair by breaking the chemical chain, the treatment done with hydroxide changes the structure of the strand irreversibly and it is for this reason that it is suitable for determined people, those who want straight hair.
This operation makes the hair dry and a capillary chronogram is therefore necessary. At the end of the hair-raising procedure, the water neutralizes the product and it is for this reason that great care must be taken not to wet the hair prematurely, under penalty of nullity or less than perfect effectiveness of the treatment, given that the product is placed and worked on dry hair.
At the end of the application, the product must be completely removed from the hair and to do this perfectly, there are shampoos on the market that change color in the presence of the product, thus identifying the imperfect final wash.
Thioglycolate: for the undecided it is the best product
Thioglycolate only aligns the capillary strands, not changing the structure of the strand; this allows the removal of the process extremely easily and therefore having the hair back as it was before the treatment. It is a simple product to use and with professional help it can be applied to any type of hair.
With a lower pH than hydroxide, thioglycolates do not damage the scalp and an oxidant is used to neutralize the drying process – unlike hydroxides which are similar to water.
